Our story
Our story
Our story
Atelier began in 2016 when Anneli Holmberg, a furniture maker trained in Copenhagen, rented a 60 square metre workshop with one bench. She made 12 chairs in the first year and sold all of them to friends and neighbours.
Nine people now work in the same building, which has grown to 420 square metres in the west of Copenhagen. We still make in small batches of 12 to 40 pieces, so we can check each piece by hand before it leaves.
We work with 11 materials and a short list of suppliers whose names we know. Our oak and ash come from managed forests in Denmark and Sweden, and every piece has a number inside so we can trace it. If you email us about a piece, we can tell you who made it.

We pick timber by hand at the sawmill and let it rest in the workshop for a week before we cut it.

Join and shape the parts
Joints are glued and pegged. Parts are planed, shaped and sanded in three grits, from coarse to fine.

Finish the surface
Wood is oiled or stained, steel is powder-coated, and linen and bouclé are cut and sewn in the same building.

Check and pack
A second person checks every piece. We pack it in recycled card and paper and send it to arrive within the time shown on its page.
